Abstract


DETERMINATION OF HEALTH LITERACY AND RATIONAL DRUG USE LEVELS OF VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF HEALTH SERVICES STUDENTS’

The aim of this study is to determine the health literacy levels and rational drug use levels of the Vocational School of Health Services students’ in terms of different variables and to determine the relationship between them. The easy sampling method, which is among the screening models, was used in the research. The data of the study were collected by using the scales applied to 488 students (383 female, 105 male) who were studying in Sivas Cumhuriyet University Vocational School of Health in the spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. In order to determine health literacy levels of Vocational School of Health students’, “Health Literacy Diagnostic Scale” was used, which was developed by Sorensen et al. (2013), the scale was edited again by Toçi et al. (2013) and then the scale was adapted to Turkish by Temel and Aras (2017). The reliability of the scale was .92 and .93 in this study. The rational drug use levels of Vocational School of Health students’ were determined using the “Rational Drug Use Scale” which developed by Demirtaş et al. (2018). The reliability of the scale was .79 and .85 in this study. The level of health literacy scores of students have significant difference, according to gender, grade level, type of education, economic status, type of school graduated and field of study variables. The level of health literacy scores of students have not significant difference, according to mother and father education level, place of residence variables. The level of rational drug use scores of students have significant difference, according to grade level and field of study. The level of rational drug use scores have not significant difference, according to gender, type of education, mother and father educational level, places of residence and type of school gratuated. It was found that there was a positive low level correlation between health literacy and total score of rational drug use.
